THE GAME 200x140cm. Acrílico sobre lienzo
DECODE, the "pictorial meta-language" appears from the need to express, through painting, an inner world that emerges as a combination of a singular conceptual game and a particular painting technique.
Colour, typefaces and poetic messages shaped as a compositional network, prompt the viewer's curiosity to find a hidden message, which in fact is the starting point of the work's construction. Technically, DECODE is a collection mainly large format works built with multiple layers of matter and veiling.
Through a collage technique, a painting of barely perceptible material base provides the picture a three-dimensional effect; the fusion of this effect with the pictorial chromatism results in a complex and harmonic symbiosis.
HELGA GROLLO
Stuttgart (D). Studied Fine Arts at the Polytechnic University in Valencia (E).
Lives and works in Valencia.
After years of dedication to the study, formulation and design of paint colours, Helga Grollo starts to create works of art to express ideas and thoughts with the purpose to "transmit", communicating with the observer through hidden or encrypted messages that are presented behind paint, glaze and collage techniques.
Words are used as pretext and texts as an artistic expression. It is a pictorial meta-language where mystery is materialized in each hidden letter, initiating a dialogue with the spectator through colours and a constructive structure of words. It is in fact a disciplined, orderly and structured work to create a dynamic composition full of harmony.
The collage technique is of great importance, combining it with a strong chromatic input, which builds up a type of work with the idea of evoking mystery by means of letters and colours.
