Sicardi | Ayers | Bacino is pleased to present Quarantine Compositions, a selection of twelve watercolor and charcoal works on paper by Sandra Monterroso (Guatemala, b. 1974). This special offering of new work produced during the quarantine is concurrent with Threads of Memory, the gallery's first solo exhibition of her work. Our Online Viewing Room offers a glimpse into Monterroso's artistic process in her Guatemala City studio.
Monterroso explains, "I started working on this series a few days after the news of mandatory confinement. During the quarantine I have spent very sad days so I tried to take refuge in spirituality and meditation. I started doing meditations to balance the chakras. Each form has a color: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple. In turn, they are energetic vortices that regulate the emotional, mental and spiritual fields. Each chakra is also related to keeping the body's health balanced. The watercolors have a layer of charcoal, which for me represents the fog of our own fears. Even so, the color and brightness invite us to believe in the balance of life and its constant movement."
