Eighty Los Angeles art galleries have joined together to create an online platform to promote engagement with the local and international art audience. GalleryPlatform.LA will present ten gallery “viewing rooms” each week. Park View / Paul Soto are proud to participate in week 1 with a two-person showing by gallery artists Victoria Colmegna and Mark McKnight.
Victoria Colmegna and Mark McKnight work distinctively, yet their respective feminist and queer positions overlap and we highlight that here by focusing on the idea of the “skin.” For the two, the skin is a material surface produced culturally and environmentally. Its genesis as a receptor surface for its surroundings from life until death makes the effects of culture and environment indistinguishable from the persona or the physical body. Rather than re-creating hierarchies of knowledge to parse differences within this life process, both explore the self and their immediate surroundings through a fluid, horizontal relationship to materiality, one focused on pleasure and pain. Colmegna turns her gaze inward, and McKnight his outward. The debased is as full of spirit as the pure from their related standpoints. For more information, please contact us by phone or email.
