Kustera Projects is pleased to present Into the Shadow, an exhibition featuring three artists - Peter Edlund, Carter Kustera, Vanessa Marsh - who utilize the silhouette in their work as a means to communicate a narrative of self and place. The exhibition opens on Saturday, March 11th with a reception from 6-8pm, and runs through April 8, 2017.
In a new series of oil paintings called 'The Presence of Absence' by Peter Edlund, images of nature and animals are presented in stark landscapes suggesting the incompleteness of the worlds left behind, and an acknowledgement of the silencing of indigenous languages and cultures. The dreamlike photographs by Vanessa Marsh explore the intersections of manmade, natural, and cosmological power by intermingling components of human infrastructure, natural landscape and the cosmos. Carter Kustera's glitter canvases bring to light the uprooting of culture and the violence of forced migration.
