Burdeny's current series, abstract aerial color photographs of the tulip fields in The Netherlands and salt flats from around the world, are sublime observations of his appreciation for structural detail and the metaphorical value of space. He presents a formalized landscape rarely seen, making the observer question whether they are looking at a painting or a photograph. When taken to large scale the photographs acquire the painterly expressiveness of Rothko or Diebenkorn.
