Kustera Projects is pleased to present The Ridiculous Now, an exhibition by Rohitash Rao. This will be the solo debut in New York of this eclectic Los Angeles based artist, illustrator, and animator. The exhibition is from July 23 - August 28, 2016, with an opening reception on Saturday, July 23rd, from 6-8pm.
Rao's carnival of art style exhibition of paintings is anchored by a quirky and humorous site-specific timeline charting our progress as humans, from the beginning of time to our self obsessed and celebrity culture of today. Working in mixed media on found objects, Rao presents his unique perspective reflecting on our cultural consumption created on the very things that we discard. In addition to the paintings, Rao will present a series of animated shorts, handmade and published books as well as his line of T-shirts.
Rohitash Rao was born in Hyderabad, India, and raised in Rancho Cucamonga, California. He graduated with a BFA from the Art Center College of Design in 1991 and has worked as an art director, animator, and creative director. He has two successful children's book series, "Herbert's Wormhole" and "Creature Keepers," with collaborator Peter Nelson, as well as animated segments on Comedy Central's Trip Tank. Rao's animated films have played in over 25 film festivals around the world including Cannes and The Tribeca Film Festival. His artwork has been included in several group shows and most recently had his first solo show at Fathom Gallery in Downtown L.A. The artist lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
