Perrotin is pleased to return to TEFAF New York with a virtual presentation of a single masterpiece, Color al Centro, (1999), by Venezuelan artist Jesús Rafael Soto.
Born in 1923 in Venezuela, Soto is widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of kinetic art, working across the twentieth century to create signature series including his high relief works with optical vibrations, which debuted in 1955 in the landmark exhibition Le Mouvement at the Galerie Denise René. Created in the last decade of the artist's life, the work eloquently culminates the canonical accomplishments of Soto's career, including a career's-long study of spatial dimensions and the optical merits of the temporal, rhythmic and vibratory qualities of painting. Works from this series have been widely exhibited in exhibitions globally at the Guggenheim, the Musée Soulages Rodez, and the Centre Pompidou, where a work from this series is in the permanent collection.
