Cristea Roberts Gallery is pleased to announce the launch of a new woodcut edition entitled Totes Meer, 2020, by Christiane Baumgartner.
Christiane Baumgartner, who is best known for the monumental woodcuts she makes based on her own films, has always been concerned with the evocation of movement and the play of light, and this new woodcut conjures up the dazzling effect of a sunrise in the Middle East.
Throughout the recent lockdown Baumgartner has been working with her own supply of smaller plates. Totes Meer, which translates to Dead Sea, is an edition of 14, and has been printed by hand in black and turquoise blue by the artist in her studio in Leipzig. The edition is sold on a first come, first served basis.
