Tanya Bonakdar Gallery is pleased to announce the unveiling of a new site-specific commission by Turner prize-winning artist, Martin Boyce at Tate Britain. The new work, commissioned with the support of the Clore Duffield Foundation, is located in the courtyard outside of the Clore Gallery – the home of JMW Turner’s paintings.
The work consists of a custom cast concrete terrace with the phrase Remembered Skies illuminated in Boyce’s signature typeface and scattered across the courtyard. The shapes from the terrace floor and the font both stem from the geometry of the concrete trees created by Jan and Joel Martel in 1925, often incorporated in Boyce’s work.
Boyce explains, “ The term Remembered Skies alludes to the way Turner constructed his landscape compositions. For his skies, the constant changing conditions of clouds and light would necessitate a composite of the seen, imagined and remembered."
