Stoa Gallery participates, for the second year at the SCOPE BASEL art fair. The fair will be held from June 12 to 17 in the Swiss city of Basel.
Our project, curated by Conchi Alvarez, is based on two painters that the gallery represents, the French Julie Alegre and the Spanish Conchi Alvarez. The idea is based on the interpretation that, the urban landscape, for which the Mediterranean is the meeting point, is remain source of inspiration for these two artists. A sea, which has developed around a sense of life that only occurs on its shores, and that has had, precisely in cities, a passionate boisterous world, a common space, meeting cultures, which have been superimposed and have coexisted in harmony and mutual cultural enrichment.
All paintings belong to the figurative sphere and in all of them, it is a city without people. Streets and corners of cities in southern Spain in acrylics on the panels of Conchi, and panoramic medinas of the M´Zab of Algeria in the inks on paper of Julie. For these two creators, the city is the scenario of dreams and daydreams, desires and lived experiences, and the common denominator is bright, powerful and saturated colour, seeming to want to transmit enthusiasm to the most skeptical, proposing to dream, or daydream, with an ideal city, more friendly, polite, full of life… but in these landscapes, their past, the lived experiences, project their particular idiosyncrasy and a landscaping that encloses much more the appreciation of a simple look.
