ABOUT EXHIBITION :
This is the artist's first exhibition in Spain since he was nominated for the Marcel Duchamp Prize in 2022 and his work was recognised that same year in an exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. A multidisciplinary creator, Decrauzat's exhibition will cover the two Madrid gallery spaces. The space at Blanca de Navarra, 7, will present his latest works, framed under the title SCREEN, an ambitious tour de force in Decrauzat's work that features enormous structural and, undoubtedly, chromatic complexity. Our second space at Blanca de Navarra, 9, will present an unpublished video projection by the artist that exposes a play of theoretical and technical narratives that masterfully accentuates the artist's reflections on the process of perception and appreciation of image, movement and colour.
ABOUT ARTISTS : Philippe Decrauzat
«The art of Philippe Decrauzat, which includes paintings, mural works, films, sculptures and installations, with references to the historical avant-garde, popular and experimental cinema, music, graphic design, abstract painting and science fiction, It has, despite its changes in form and sources, a singular purpose, it is a continuous investigation into the act of perception, an investigation that is marked by a "transgressive visuality." Decrauzat, whether reviving the languages of constructivism, minimalism and optical art, or geometric abstraction, operates outside modernist notions of utopia or transcendence, and warps the contours of styles both revered and degraded, to his own end, often establishing unexpected connections (…) « – Bob Nickas in Painting Abstraction: New Elements in Abstract Painting, Phaidon, 2013. Philippe Decrauzat (Lausanne, Switzerland, 1974) is one of the main names of the new generation of perceptive artists. He is co-founder of the independent space CIRCUIT and professor at the Cantonal School of Art of Lausanne (ECAL). A multidisciplinary creator, Decrauzat works with installations, films, prints, sculptures and paintings that he presents in several series. His work brings together not only the different currents of perceptive creators, but also questions and solutions of the conceptual art of the 60s, which makes his work absolutely exceptional. The artist, who lives between Paris and Lausanne, has participated in the following institutional exhibitions in recent years: Le Magasin, Grenoble; House of Art, Ceské Budejovice; Le Plateau/Frac Ile-de-France, Paris; Musée Cantonal, Lausanne; Haus Konstruktiv, Zurich; Les Abattoirs, Toulouse; ‘Still (Times Stand)’, Center régional d’art contemporain, Le Havre, solo exhibition; ‘Now is Always also a Little of Yesterday and Tomorrow’, Museum Haus Konstruktiv, Zürich; ‘Replica’, Blue Project Foundation, Barcelona, individual exhibition; ‘Action & Reaction. 100 Years of Kinetic Art’, Kunsthal Rotterdam, Rotterdam; ‘Flatland / Abstractions narratives’, Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean (MUDAM), Luxembourg or ‘Dynamo: A century of light and movement in art, 1913-2013’, Grand Palais, Paris. His work is found in some of the most important private and public collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), in New York; Kunsthaus, in Zurich, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Buenos Aires (MACBA) or the Center Pompidou-MNAM, in Paris. Thus, Philippe Decrauzat has been nominated for the Marcel Duchamp Prize (2022).
