SET ESPAI D'ART presents for the first time in Valencia the work by the Polish artist Janek Zamoyski (Warsaw, 1978). We are presenting Zamoyski's latest project, Antarctic typology, a photographic work developed around a central theme: the Antarctic Ocean, a thematic continuation of his Atlantic series exhibited previously within PhotoEspaña at the National Museum Of Natural Sciences in Madrid, Fundación Mapfre Guanartemel (La Palmas de Gran Canaria) and TEA (Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
Antarctic Typology is a series of photographs depicting types of glaciers, rocks and waves in the Antarctic area. Zamoyski documents the natural architecture of the space of this unique and homogeneous region, paying attention to the fractal structure, undefined scale and subtle differences of its elements. The idea of typology is implemented through frontal displays of the only three elements of Antarctic landscape. In an infinite repetition, the waves, icebergs and rocks turn into abstract forms, into patches of color bathed in a leaden light. Its interest lies in the diversity of aesthetics and the structure of a homogeneous reality, which results from the mutual influence of its constituent elements, such as light, wind and temperature. The origin of the series is located in the observation of landscape in opposition to anthropocentrism, in the search of new ideas, resignation from the established forms as well as freedom and open-mindedness.
This exhibition has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Polish Institute of Culture in Madrid.
