SET ESPAI D'ART gallery is pleased to invite you to the exhibition "Des-comunicados", the first chance to see in Valencia the work of the artist Denica Veselinova (Bulgaria, 1982). The result of a reflection on language as a way of thinking and defining the world, the exhibition raises questions of cultural diversity, communication and incomprehension.
"Perhaps due to her own bilingual condition, the process of coping with a language different from one's mother tongue and its subsequent failure are recurrent themes in the work of Denica Veselinova. The interactive multidisciplinary installation Mouthsaic, which conctitutes the central part of the exhibition, places special emphasis on the notions of shame or insecurity when establishing communication, and on translation as an imperfect tool for transmitting information.
The intention of the work is to alter the message artificially through technology that translates a series of sentences into random languages until the constant translation and re-translation reaches a level of abstraction, preventing its understanding. The piece, which combines the concepts of linguistics, philosophy, anthropology and sociology, is complemented by a series of drawings on paper that explore the theme of human communication through word games and visual metaphors."
