Alejandro Botubol, Ocaso, 2017, Solar light in oil on canvas 19x24 cm.
The past May,
Alejandro Botubol
presented at Ponce+Robles
galley the work titled “Espejo” (Mirror), a wink to the
production of his new set which
it has been developed to
make his first individual show at the gallery.
The show titled Macropintura locates us in the experience of the author, and of the works with the light coming through the window of his studio. There, Botubol looks around, search ing for the travel of the light to built, sometimes as a simple anecdote, sometimes a full story that will continue to develop along the time.
To the production of the art works, the artist uses some daily tools which turn into useful utensils to create. Sometimes, for example, a round and old mirror of his bathroom is the tool selected to draw at the wall of his studio with the afternoon light. At the end is mostly the light of his painting the one which end his works on canvas.
This process of studyin g and observation are compiled by the author until, in words of the artist, “it comes a day in which the whole organic universe begin to show a solid body, and, by the gesture of my strokes it takes me to a holly routine of unconscious rhythms”
This indi vidual show of Alejandro Botubol at the Ponce+Robles Gallery includes an installation titled “Altar de Noche” (Night Shrine), which is, as the artist explains, “a work which has been built bit by bit until it decided to stop”. Like in his work “Espejo” (Mi rror), the artist has transferred a mystic and vital experience from the studio to the Gallery, projecting photography of the afternoon light defragmented through a prism over a mirror, which at the same time, reflects the sunset in a slightly illuminated canvas.
Ponce+Robles gallery invites you, as public, to make a zoom into the soul of Botubol , as if you were inside of each process of the artist at his studio. An introspective view of the daily experience of an artist, which starts illuminating with the work “color - luz” (color light) continuing with this ritual trying to reach the same light power with his paintings.
