Antonio Abellan (Cartagena 1964) roams the border between the everyday and the transgressor world through pictorial snapshots of exuberant imagination in which his characters, perhaps portraits of us, have complex roles full of stories to tell.
Faces, limbs, hands and shoes are distributed in a choreographic composition, shaking the space and filling it with life, body contacts and subtle knowing glances, accompanied by strong meaningful environments: a brothel, a beach, a bucolic field or a tale scenery, a bourgeois house or just the street. Abellán leaves nothing to chance.
His restless mind resolves with grace and delicacy, through a most plastic work, unexpected interpersonal situations. His approach to theme is strongly pictorial, integrating mixed media and collage, shape, colour, elements and space in an elegant game of deep jolt.
