🎨 Artists

Artist(s): Antonio Santín, Jong Oh

Artist Abstract:
Antonio Santín (b. 1978) lives and works in Madrid. Known for his meticulous technique, Santín creates intricate oil-on-canvas paintings, some taking up to a year to complete, that blur the line between illusion and abstraction. Drawing on Spanish visual traditions, he manipulates light and shadow so that his painted carpets appear almost sculptural, deceiving the eye from a distance before resolving, up close, into abstract, fractal-like passages of color and form.

Santín earned his Fine Arts degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. His work has been exhibited at institutions including the Ithra Museum (Saudi Arabia), the Knoxville Museum of Art, and the Georg Kolbe Museum (Berlin), and is held in collections including the Chrysler Museum, the Peabody Essex Museum, and the Boca Raton Museum of Art.
Jong Oh (b. 1981) lives and works in Seoul. He creates minimal, site-specific sculptures using suspended Plexiglas and painted string, arranged in careful response to a space, in which light, shadow, and the viewer's shifting position turn each installation into a study of perception and form. At the fair, Oh will build the work directly at the booth, so the presentation can respond to its site in real time.

Also on view: SONGEUN Art Space Oh's presentation at Booth B03 coincides with a major solo exhibition at SONGEUN Art Space in Seoul, giving visitors the rare opportunity to see his work in two distinct settings, from an intimate booth installation to a full institutional exhibition, within the same week.

Oh holds a BFA from Hongik University and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York. He is the recipient of the 2022 Kim Se-Choong Sculpture Award and the 2021 Song Eun Art Award, and his work is held in the collections of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the Orange County Museum of Art, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Victoria, among others.
