The title of the exhibition, UnKnown Body reveals soft overweights, in bodies that languish, wait, venerate, hurting in abstract forms, they ease down on the habitual ground, flesh that tends to go beyond its own demand for existence, and in this it contracts, tense, that knows the crushing, that makes itself vulnerable.
The body reclaimed and fixed in the image, hidden among the artworks, seeking an identity of its own, or in urban landscapes of acid colours, architecture without person.
Artists :
Liu Bolin, Chinese artist, graduated in Sculpture in Beijing Central Academy of Fine Arts. The research with which Bolin is best known is his photographic self-portraits, characterized by the fusion of the body with the surrounding area. Hide in the colors and objects of the place chosen by the artist's eye is one way to try to identify both the landscape, culture and therefore the identity of a place, to reflect on the society's will to see and not see the other. Solitary, in his disguises-landscapes, Liu Bolin expresses the soul of migrant of the modern times, in works of extraordinary poetry and troubling beauty.
The debut of Mario Schifano is inside the informal culture. He exhibits for the first time in 1959 and yet the following year the critics start to demonstrate great interest in his painting. Between 1962 and 1963 he spends part of his life in the United States, where he comes closer to Pop Art. His works are kept in various museums including the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome and the Gallery of Modern Art in Turin. In 2012, his former assistant L. Ronchi has published the biography of Mario Schifano, which traces the artistic and human history of the painter.
Gabriela Elena David is a young artist graduated from the University of Art and Design in Cluj Napoca and she is now developing a consistent and intensive investigation on corporality, analyzing it through a particular pictorial language. Heir to the great figurative tradition, she joins a unique reflection of the torment of the image that has surely marked the second half of '900 in Europe: we find echoes of the spatial anxiety by Bacon, of the Lucian Freud's intrusive analysis, combined with photographic cuts that are looking at the body as a map of flesh and feelings, without fear of the sublime encounter with the diversity and the non-conformity.
Cristian Bogdan Bara, expresses itself with a painting research that offers a peculiar vision of the all-day life, describing it with glossy and sometimes ruthless, hardness: his research, in fact, originates from the capture of urban sections, often of peripheral visions, or of belongs to the mundane scenarios of the so-called middle class. After selecting these visions, Cristian reproduces them on canvas, using acid and violent colors, sometimes the dripping, without losing at the same time the strict analytical and iconographic reproduction.
The exhibition UnKnown Body, curated by Walter Bonomi, is therefore an important event for the international critics and collectors, confirming the will of IAGA to be lively cultural platform whose main objective is to develop and promote dialogue between the West and Eastern European contemporary art, thanks to the participation in art fairs, festivals and events of international contemporary art, looking at a possible future where cultural exchange and international dialogue is really the foundation upon which to build a long-term art projects.
The exhibition is accompanied by an online catalog, with photos containing the site-specific installations; it can be visit inside IAGA spaces between 8 - 31 October.
