Ten Haaf Projects is pleased to announce “Back 2 Back”, an exhibition by André Giesemann & Oliver Lanz. While working with different mediums, Oliver Lanz mostly with acrylic on canvas and Giesemann with photography, the two artists influence one another and occasionally join forces. In 2015, André Giesemann was invited by Oliver Lanz to show in the Museum Gegenstandsfreier Kunst in Ottendorf. Since then, they have maintained close contact and wanted to present their work together again.
Remembered for his large-scale application of vibrant colours, for this show Oliver Lanz has created midsize canvases in black, white and silver, examining possibilities of black and white and everything in between. Lanz introduces new and different structures from his own archive of black and white structures and layers. Though abstract, the shades of light and dark open up a world of great depth and strong emotional intensity.
Concurrently, André Giesemann presents his black and white photo series “Atrappe”, which focuses on real and imaginary spaces and the ambiguity of reality. These photographs show the interiors of various kinds of buildings, such as museums, furniture shops and showrooms. While the photographed spaces themselves look inviting, they lack human presence, thus feeling empty and desolate. Giesemann’s photographs show us how a place, once no longer in use, appears worthless and empty.
André Giesemann (1980) lives and works in Hamburg, and Oliver Lanz (1971) in Berlin. Both artists have exhibited within and outside Europe and their work can be found in respected private collections.
