TORCH is thrilled to announce Solo Spaces , a solo-exhibition of new work by renowned American artist Terry Rodgers. On Saturday the 29th of October, between 5-7pm, the artist will be present at the gallery to open the exhibition. After this festive evening Solo Spaces will be open to the public until Saturday the 31st of December. A new, limited edition publication will be made available during the opening. During the upcoming Amsterdam Art Weekend (24-27 November) Terry will take part in a Q&A hosted from his studio in Columbus, Ohio via live video chat. This special event will be moderated in Amsterdam by media critic, writer and lecturer Catherine Somzé and will take place on Saturday the 26th of November from 4-5 pm. TORCH is open from Thursday until Saturday from 12-6 pm and by appointment.
Solo Spaces will feature a selection of new paintings, multimedia work and a video piece. The exhibition will be the premiere for a new body of work Terry has described as 'Quads'. These exciting pieces consist of four separate smaller works mounted in a fixed composition. They will be presented alongside his well-known large scale cinematic paintings and a video piece featuring a musical composition by Michael Wall & Darren Morze . A special publication will be printed to celebrate Terry Rodgers' fifth solo-exhibition at TORCH. It will feature images of his recent works and essays by professor James R. Zimmerman and art historian Emiel van der Pol. Conceptually this exhibition marks a self-reflective turn in Terry's oeuvre. His new work expands on the feelings of detachment and desire explored in his earlier work while emphasizing a contemporary disconnect between body and mind. By letting the digital world leave its marks on the chosen subject matter his works seem to have become fragmented representations of fragile social constructs. Terry has always played with the discrepancies between the collage and the whole and in these new works the seams have become more visible than ever. Terry Rodgers (1947, Newark, New Jersey) lives and works in Columbus, Ohio. His work can be found in private and institutional collections worldwide. Recent exhibitions include: Divine Decadence – Kasteel Gaasbeek, Lennik, Belgium, Degrees of Separation, Kunstverein Heppenheim, Germany, Likeness, Albertz-Benda, New York and Approximations of the Sublime, Aeroplastics, Brussels. Terry Rodgers is represented by Aeroplastics Contemporary in Brussels, Belgium and TORCH gallery in Amsterdam. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
