Michael Kessler is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Kessler’s work honors the inner dynamics of the natural world through his large-scale, multi-layered panels. Kessler evolved his landscape paintings towards abstraction, focusing on the cause-and-effect of nature, capturing not the tree, but the texture of the bark; not the river, but the shape of erosion. In his latest series, revealed in this exhibition, Kessler utilizes the fluidity of water colored with pigment to capture the evolution of the natural world.
Allison Stewart is based in New Orleans, Louisiana and Snowmass, Colorado. Stewart’s abstract nature impressions are inspired by stories of restoration, cultivation, and conservation. Residing somewhere between realism and abstraction, Stewart paints visual diaries of her emotions about a landscape, about “nature in the act of becoming, nature in the act of changing, of altering itself or being altered,” according to the artist. Her nature-based abstract paintings reflect the duality of substance and spirit, image and impression, observation and memory.
