Always following a line of research MAG transforms itself in a continuous evolution, and this time focuses his attention on one of the greatest Italian contemporary masters who, through photography, writes his and our unconscious.
Franco Donaggio.
Internationally known artist, represented in Paris by USA ,has been working in Milan since 1979, in 1992 he received the important award “Pubblicità Italia” for still-life photography and in 1995 he achieved his first important project of Fine Art "Metaritratti" winner of the Kodak Gold Award, Donaggio creates images which are halfway between the metaphysical and the experimental portrait.
The artist has been realizing many projects, his works are publicized in more magazines and showed in many important exhibitions both in Italy and abroad. His artworks are in many public and private collections from Usa to Europe and Russia. Franco Donaggio’s work, reflects not only an aesthetic inquiry, but a strongly interior one, rich in meanings and symbols, creating a metaphysical and oeniric context with an almost Zen poetics.
Donaggio uses his camera to 'capture' elements,he takes objects and people in a multitude of shots that are at a later stage assembled, reconstructed and metabolized again, he is able, with alchemical prowess, to compose images full of charm with oeniric atmospheres reproducing a milieu that goes over reality. The experimentation is essential in the artistic path of the author, where through the constant research, he can, as he says, “see inside” discovering hidden spaces where echoes of the real world come, where photographic reality is almost forgotten to give space to something else…
The exhibition shows a selection of the three most important and discerned projects by Master Donaggio: "Reflection" of the year 2006, “ Before the Day” made between 2007 and 2009 and the latest “Morpheus’ Spaces” of the year 2013.
The series "Reflection" was born from artist’s need to stop and think about his origins, love received from his parents and nature of his land that moulded him, Chioggia; a place full of simbologies which shaped his intensive and multicoloured background. The clean images, in a metaphysical and obviously oneiric context, are supported by a graphic rigour originated by atmospheres’ rarefaction..
The art work of “Prima del giorno" “ Before the Day” was conceived by an intuition of the author, meditating on the moment which anticipates the day, the comparison with the oneiric drenched with secrets, that we find here in form of symbols, want to tell us that life is not only what we see, but it can be much more … Donaggio develops an inner atmosphere that expands and expresses itself in a mood of total peace of mind and 'fusion', which is typical of the moment that heralds the hustle and bustle of the day. In his images there is the relationship between human beings and surrounding landscape, where the architecture recreated by huge structures becomes natural scenery, where humankind plays a leading role.
The last artwork in order of time is the successful series “Gli spazi di Morfeo" “Morpheus’ Spaces” where for the first the Master confronted with the female nude and in this occasion two special models posed for him: the Playmate Arianna Espen Grimoldi and the performer Giò Lacedra. Again Donaggio is able to stray beyond reality putting together fragments of life and experience of reality in a vision transposed on a new logics woven fabric, very close to dream. In these worlds, woman is the undisputed protagonist, she takes on the onerous role of savior in a values’ oblivion worn away world, along an arduous path of reconstruction and beauty, where, contrary to the story of Adam and Eve, woman does not offer to man the apple of sin but salvation…
