The Galleria Umberto Di Marino is delighted to present the new solo show of Alberto Di Fabio entitled Camere del
sogno (Dream rooms) on Friday 10 March 2017.
As a passionate observer of the physical world, the artist carries out his research on matter, whether natural or pictorial, with constancy and lyricism. Atoms chase each other, neurons connected to each other via synaptic connections produce sudden flashes, and the solidity of colour dissolves into miniscule gas particles. The chaos of matter, from which all vital processes derive, reveals itself as a possible representation of eternity, the only representation that is comprehensible to the human eye. The infinite cosmos, made up of molecules in a constant state of transformation, therefore manifests itself in superimpositions of colours, both in brushstrokes and in dripping paint.
Whether tackling the vastness of hyperspace or constructing a dialogue with the landscape, Di Fabio has created a personal perspective over the years. Through this perspective, it is possible to immerse oneself in matter, sometimes with a sad gaze due to mankind’s abuse of nature, but more often with a sense of the sublime which leads to a higher awareness of the surrounding environment.
For his solo show at Castel Sant'Elmo in 2015, the ecstatic vision of the Bay of Naples led to the desire for a complete immersion in beauty: a wall drawing created an atmosphere that pervades the architectural space. The fluorescent colours and the magnetic waves caused by the pictorial gesture provide the premises for a gradual loss of selfawareness towards parallel worlds that are remote in time and space, closer to the quantum essence of the Universe. At the Galleria Umberto Di Marino, the creative process becomes a performative process; the artist’s gaze shifts from the outside towards the inside of the most profound and spiritual self until eventually reaching the unconscious. The whole exhibition space becomes a blank canvas for an inner world fuelled by primeval forces, linked to the imagination more than observation. The walls are completely covered by entrancing signs and fields. They seem to induce visitors into a sort of visual trance on a journey towards a dreamlike world inhabited by frequencies that are utterly different from the ones usually intercepted by daily life.
Matter becomes evanescent and the mind rediscovers a possible conjunction with astral substance. The viewer beholds a phase transition of mankind from the physical to the ethereal state, a permutation that offers encouragement to search for the authentic divine spark. The itinerary of the exhibition gradually reveals details following the angles of space, participating, with its series of rooms, in the search for elevation: a tendency to return towards an inseparable whole between the individual and the rest of creation.
Alberto Di Fabio was born in 1966 in Avezzano, Italy. He lives and works between Rome and New York.
