Landscapes as projection screens for desires, like our longing for nature, are the overarching theme of Thomas Wrede's photographic work. His photography questions the boundaries between reality and staging and merges the natural with the artificial.
Wrede's recent photo series "Bélvedèreˮ deals with the Rhône glacier in Switzerland and its transformation through climate change. These photographs reveal his interest in natural landscapes transformed by human intervention. Wrede photographed both the exterior of the glacier cave, draped in blankets to slow the ice melt and its interior formed by centuries-old layers of ice glowing crystal blue.
