The title TJA stands here as a humorous antithesis to the supposed weight of the work and the concentrated work of both artists. In the joint exhibition by Heichel and Uhr, darkness is the unexplored space in which all desires, all failures, all sensations and thoughts can frolic. Despite the seeming melancholy that the works of both artists suggest, both darkness and failure will be seen as a welcome and consistent opportunity for correction. The common theme is shown by deletions (clock) or by absence (Heichel) of persons. Both positions question a supposed emptiness, formulate and interpret, create a new version, ask the viewer instead of giving answers and still always speak of man.
The artist Katrin Heichel uses in her painting a characteristic encryption of her imagery. As a result, her works are often based on an ambivalent pictorial statement that has to be decoded first.
In terms of content, Katrin Heichel has dedicated herself to the subject of still life since her conservation paintings (2004-2005). The objects of nature and objects from everyday life are transformed into allegories of human biographies. Heichel dips the objects of art, which bear impressive radiance, into a nocturnal light that unfolds in superimposed nuances of dark red, blue and violet tones. The cycle 'Nocturama' is an example of her gesture. In the sense of an allegory of the experience of entering a dark room, the artist emphasizes the concentration on the sensuous, yet the ratio takes hardly any weight for orientation and thus ties in with conceptions of romanticism. *1
Heichel creates still lifes "behind the people" who give their spaces to an ambivalent longing and arrange their inventory to the milieu. * 2
