GALERIE SUPPER, Baden-Baden, gladly announces the exhibition Wind-Worte with recent works of the artist Monika Thiele (b.1966, Erfurt). The evening also marks the beginning of the CAB-Event, which will transform the city center of Baden-Baden into a vibrant place for art the following Sunday afternoon.
Thiele is known for her narrative portraits which are characterized by a dense net of interfering threads, producing a stunning depth. The complex layering of formal and narrative elements plays an important role within her artistic practice. In the current exhibition, Thiele's thread paintings will be combined and correlated with works which retransfer the textile cross-hatching into the medium of paper. While both techniques open up most different artistic possibilities, they have the complex combination and variation of parallel lines in common. Meticulously, Thiele gives not only a special kind of expression to her figures, she also visualizes their fragility and their vulnerability. The characters are embedded in narrative sceneries which are often inspired by literary works. Therefore, the backdrop of the pictures becomes a key to the attitude and expression of the protagonists: Their stories remain implicit, an ephemeral suspicion, which is always already about to be scattered by the wind.
Monika Thiele (b.1966, Erfurt) studied Fine Arts in Dresden, Stuttgart, and Karlsruhe under Max Kaminski among others. Her thread paintings have been presented in group shows at institutions such as the National Museum Latvia (2015) and th German Textile Museum (2017) as well as within the framework of renowned international exhibition projects such as the 55th Biennale di Venezia (2013) and the 9th International Textile Biennial in Shenzen, China (2016).
