GALERIE SUPPER proudly presents Resistant Harmonies, a solo show with recent works of Andreas Wachter (*1951, Chemnitz).
Wachter understands to unite the contradictory on various levels. Many of his motifs and painting techniques comply with the strategy of the Chiaroscuro. This technique, which has been mainly used within the era of baroque and mannerism, creates an almost haptic tension within the picture through extreme application of light. Wachter appropriates this technique and further translates the staging of contradictions into an anachronistic timeliness and an ambivalent notion of reality. Wachter's imaginations unfold a theatricality which might take us out of our world - a world which appears to be way too small all of a sudden.
Andreas Wachter (*1951, Chemnitz) studied with Arno Rink and Volker Stelzmann at the Academy of Fine Arts at Leipzig from 1974 until 1980. He is one of the most important representatives of his generation of the Leipzig School. Wachter's works are part of collections such as the Leipzig Museum of Fine Arts, the National Gallery (Posen), the Pushkin Museum Moscow and the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.
