"The major part of my work consists in the investigation and discussion of / with systems and structures, more precisely defined as logical systems which produce or can produce visual structures. Rational, old and newly existing systems, ones that are not developed by me but are rather extracted from reality, have often not yet been contemplated in terms of their visual character.
Some of these systems are today no longer necessarily perceived as rational, but rather as magical or mythical, but they too have their origins in the human ratio and in the desire to understand.
This is how Rune Mields summarised the basic motif of her creative work as long ago as 1978.
By way of Novalis, the early Romantic philosopher and mining engineer and the insights of his published in fragments on philosophy and mathematics (Mathematical Fragments: Philosophical Reflections on the Mathematical Notions), Rune Mields' recent work once again shows its reverence for the organising spirit. She lends Novalis' thought a mode of expression the visual context.
