Espace Meyer Zafra is pleased to present, for the first
time at the gallery, a personal exhibition of the Fran-
co-Polish artist Ania Borzobohaty.
Within the exhibition From ether to stone, she frees herself from the traditional realization of sculpture in order to explore the multiple possibilities offered by current mediums. The sculptures made of concrete and steel placed in the center of the gallery space are accompanied by more contemporary means of ex- pression such as digital prints and video art.
Influenced by the architecture of La Défense where she grew up, her work began in the 2000s with abs- tract geometric sculptures made of steel and alumi- num. From relatively small format to monumental works, each of his works is calculated according to the previous one, reminiscent of a series of frozen movements.
By taking up the principles of Unism and the de- sire to anchor the work in space, Ania Borzobohaty emancipates herself even more from classical sculp- ture by freeing herself from all matter through video or digital art. This dichotomy between materiality and immateriality is thus particularly present in this exhibition. The sculptural forms that we see in the center of the space are extracted from the program- med video. In it, Ania Borzobohaty interprets this idea of constant reprogramming with allusions to the material world and to the sequences that can evoke the stages of construction of her sculptures at the metalwork. We thus find their forms there and we witness their disappearance or their evaporation into fine particles.
Beyond this formal and plastic aspect, another concept, more philosophical, appears in this exhibi- tion. Through this artistic project, Ania Borzobohaty wishes to show this difference that marks our current society between a virtual world marked by the Meta- verse, etc. (presented by the evaporation of physical works in the virtual world) and a world impacted by the excesses of globalization (presented by physical sculptures made in France with materials acquired in a local circuit).
