For its 10th contemporary art exhibition, the Palace of Versailles is organizing a unique visit through its gardens. Titled Voyage d’hiver (Winter Journey), the exhibition will shed new light on the gardens’ groves that will be revisited in multiple ways by contemporary artists.
Four historic fountains, each representing a different season, legitimize the important theme of a changing world. During three months Voyage d’hiver will accompany their transformations, casting a meditative trail through the gardens from the glory of autumn to the stunning freeze-over of winter.
Metamorphosing a stroll into a personal experience and allowing visitors to perceive nature’s own transformations, sixteen artists will bring forth their vision, sensibility and personal forms of poetry. From different countries, genres, and generations, firmly established or up-and-coming, together this group of artists creates an oneiric trail through the paths and the grooves.
Every year since 2008 the Palace of Versailles has held an exhibition dedicated to a French or foreign artist, including such notable names as Olafur Eliasson, Lee Ufan, Takashi Murakami and Jeff Koons. On this occasion, of a group presentation the Palais de Tokyo has been invited to design the exhibition in collaboration with Alfred Pacquement, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Palace.
