Beneath the Tame is a two person exhibition of sculpture by Mary Anne Barkhouse (AOCA, RCA) and Anna Williams curated by Lisa A. Pai.
Mary Anne Barkhouse AOCA,RCA belongs to the Nimpkish band, Kwakiutl First Nation. Working with a variety of materials Barkhouse examines environmental concerns and Indigenous culture through the use of animal imagery. She currently lives and works in the beaver wetlands of the Haliburton Highlands of Ontario.

Anna Williams was born in Ottawa, ON. After studying sculpture and printmaking at Mount Allison University she returned to Ottawa where she continues to live and work. Her artwork employs the animal and narrative to examine the construction and manipulation of female identity and power relationships in contemporary society.
Williams has had solo shows in both Canada and the U.S., and had works purchased by the Canada Council Art Bank, the Government of Canada, the City of Ottawa, The Kamm Foundation, and Humber College as well as numerous national and international private collections. Williams has also created public works in Ottawa, Toronto, and Montreal, is currently completing a large installation piece funded by grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the City of Ottawa, and has upcoming shows at the Ottawa Art Gallery, the Varley Gallery, and the Station Gallery.
Lisa A. Pai, MA Comparative Literature, has owned and operated L.A. PAI gallery since 2000. She is proud to have successfully nominated two recent recipients of the Governor General/Saidye Bronfman Awards, Canada’s foremost distinction for excellence in fine crafts and to promote Canadian artists nationally and internationally.
