Time regained, beauty and meaning
The sculptures and photos of Lynne Leegte evoke images of the past. A sense of nostalgia for old-fashioned craftsmanship which is enhanced by the use of materials like silk and alabaster.
In preparation for the photos, Leegte constructs a set in her studio figuring herself when applicable or using her own sculptures. The human body and its dimensions are a central part of her work. Her work is realistic and often reminiscent of periods in art history such as the Dutch Golden Age. This link with the past arouses an awareness of fleeting beauty and the fragility of life. Patrick Verlaak searches in his paintings the border between figuration and abstraction, he limited the reference to the Visual reality to the display of simple but multifaceted structures. The past decade founded Verlaak is mainly aimed at an analysis of the imaging of the landscape. It is an attempt to approach the nature as a constantly changing organism. The variability is mainly expressed through the Act of painting and drawing. The creation process becomes so an equivalent of the different forces of nature. The adventure of subtile splashing against each other zones is to the essence of the painting. Want a deeper understanding of the natural processes, however, not necessarily leads to a higher Visual naturalism or realism. The variability is mainly expressed through the Act of painting and drawing, where the process of creation is an equivalent of the various forces that nature forms.
