Florian Nährer, New Order

Florian Nährer understands painting as a process: he sees his pictures as open playgrounds. The process of creating the image allows him to reflect―and to continue thinking―through a composition or form. Foundational to his artistic work is the idea of the emerging image in connection with its spatial presentation.
At Galerie Reinthaler, Florian Nährer is showing a selection of his recent works. These are ambiguous images that at first leave us in the dark as to their origins and perspective, what they refer to or how they are organized. They run counter to the easy-to-interpret imagery of much contemporary art and reinforce the need to observe, to contemplate and question, to have a tolerance for imperfection.
Order as a plan for life. Order as freedom.
Nährer's works are serial and deal with religion, philosophy, and mythology by relating them to contemporary issues. The layers in his gestic and graphic painting produce a sense of spatial depth. His often informal abstract works challenge observers to think beyond the picture and engage with the forms of their own fantasies. In his most socially critical pictures or collages, Florian Nährer uses a consistently minimalistic style to provocative effect.
