Booth BC04
Axel Vervoordt Gallery is pleased to participate in Art SG with a curated presentation of thirteen artists who demonstrate the gallery's core values of an ongoing search for beauty and harmony in historically relevant works, with emphasis on the physical act of creation, masterful use of materials, and the experience of space and time.
Highlights include Kazuo Shiraga's foot painting "Obaku" (1986); vivid-coloured paintings and a ceramic-glazed volcanic golden rock sculpture by Mexican artist Bosco Sodi; Kimsooja's signature series Bottari, which constructs the idea of traveling while referring to the concept of migration and cultural issues; Zero group artist Jef Verheyen's multi-coloured immersive painting that explores light through colours; as well as works by Dansaekhwa artist Chung Chang-Sup from his Meditation series which manifest his masterfulness of manipulating the traditional Korean paper "Hanji".
Particularly created for Art SG, Hong Kong artist Jaffa Lam's Hybrid Peace (2022) is a flag that mosaics orchid flowers and is made of recycled umbrella fabric, one of the most iconic materials in her practice. "Vanda Miss Joaquim", also known as "Orchid" is the national flower of Singapore. The notion of "mixedness" of the orchid corresponds with the multi-ethnic nature of the country. "We are thrilled to participate in Art SG's inaugural edition and be part of the vibrant art scene of the Southeast Asia region for the first time. This reflects our ever-growing commitment to building bridges between East and West. I am very much looking forward to having in-depth conversations with collectors and art lovers in the region and sharing our gallery's long-standing philosophy on collecting and living with art." – Boris Vervoordt
