Booth C18
Wilde is thrilled to announce participation in the 25th edition of Paris Photo with a solo show by acclaimed artist Marina Abramović.
Marina Abramović's work is a testament that performance art is undefinable to any single medium. Abramović has explored photography throughout her fifty-year career to document her performances and performance practice, performing for both the public and the camera in her varying bodywork.
In selecting Abramović's artworks chosen for the Paris Photo, Abramović's performing for the camera - the public is not present. In these works, she puts herself into tableau vivant to create the energy space in which the photo is taken. The photograph captures her within this state, which by nature of performance may be fleeting, is held and preserved by the medium of photography.
This dialogue between these mediums has been continuous in Abramović's practice. The grouping of photographic works presented here reflects the ephemeral nature of performance art by definition and photography's role in exploring this.
