Galerie Stephanie presents Canadian visual artist Meghan Hildebrand’s first solo show in Asia entitled “What Are You Made Of?” Here, her dreamy representation of forestry richly inhabited by various whimsical characters exhibits her perfect balance of colors and an expert use of visual contrast and direction. The mix of acrylic and glitter artworks, as well as some in watercolor, resonates with the artist’s desire to initiate a connection between the pieces and the audience–probing into colors as signs of making one’s own personal material.
In her exhibit, from colors to concepts to her process, Hildebrand continues to exude a sense of coherence and symmetry with the theme. Growing up in the northernmost part of Canada ignited her fascination of eccentric characters exploring natural places.
Her paintings evidently showcase her constant ingenuity and improvisations. With a unique vocabulary of symbols, she translates her northern coastal landscape into electrifying dreamscape scenarios, each image often alluding to a larger narrative.
Meghan has had over forty solo shows, including a retrospective survey at the Yukon Arts Centre 2012. Her work has been acquired by permanent collections including RBC, Aimia, and the Yukon Government and belongs to private collections internationally. She now resides in Powell River, BC. This is her first solo exhibition in Asia.
